ASA Staffing Index Weekly Report: Oct. 3-9, 2011

During the week of Oct. 3–9, 2011, temporary and contract employment rose by 0.15%, maintaining the ASA Staffing Index at a value of 90.

At a current index value of 90, U.S. staffing employment has risen 2.8% over the past 13 weeks and is currently 2.1% lower than the same weekly period in 2010.

Data for the ASA Staffing Index have been newly reset based on benchmarks from recently released employment services data from the 2007 U.S. Economic Census. The data series has been adjusted back to June 18, 2006—the inception date of the ASA Staffing Index. See Methodology of ASA Economic Surveys for details on the benchmarking of the index.

ASA Staffing Index Monthly Report

Staffing employment in September is 3% higher than it was in August, according to the ASA Staffing Index.

The index for September is 90, up three points from the 87 reported last month. This is the first time the index has reached 90 this year, but it remains 1.2% lower than in the same month last year. With the exception of the typical dip experienced during the July 4 holiday period, weekly index data show that staffing employment has been modestly edging upward since February.

The ASA Staffing Index is reported nine days after each workweek, making it a virtual real-time measure of staffing employment trends. ASA research shows that staffing employment is a coincident economic indicator and leading employment indicator. Data for the index are gathered by ASA research partner Inavero, a market research firm based in Portland, OR.

10-Step People Placement Process

This is our highly successful 10-step People Placement Process. It allows People Source to select only the highest quality personnel who possess the right skill for the right job.

Examine

People Source will collect and compile detailed data to target your company's specific needs and efficiently implement the People Placement Process. All information collected will be kept in the strictest confidence with access only by our upper management.

People Perfect Recruting

We establish and apply guidelines specific to your company when People Source begins our diligent search process. People Source begins with placing newspaper and trade magazine ads. We attend job fairs and even college career functions to find the best qualified employee for you. Most importantly, we pay referral checks for qualified applicants. We do all of this for your employment needs, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Seed & Weed

Once a pool of potential employees has been harvested, we begin the weeding process. We interview all the applicants using the strict criteria established in Step 1 and select the employees with your 'must-haves' in mind and your 'want-tos' included whenever possible.

People Testing

People Source will set up and perform individual testing, focusing the analysis of results on the needs of your company. Each People Source potential must undergo the test, and we can even implement any other testing necessary.

People Review

At this point, People Source management begins a group management discussion and reviews the potential employee. This review includes a strengths and weaknesses evaluation, followed by a discussion on the potential for each individual. From this process, we develop questions for the re-evaluation procedure.

ReQuestion People Process

This step involves the questions that are developed during the People Review process. People Source wants to ensure that all concerns and potential concerns for both the employer and the employee line up for a people-perfect match.

ReEvaluate People Process

The potential employee is now ready to experience the final interview process. The specific needs are expressed to the potential employee through a series of questions that probe the person's interests, skills, and other items essential for a job match. These questions could range from potential job duties and employer and employee expectations to the work environment. We want to ensure that each individual is a perfect fit.

People Orientation

We design an orientation sheet specifically for your company and distribute it to each chosen employee. This list covers items such as dress code, job description, pay rate, chain of command, shift hours, parking and any other items your company would like explained for the employee's rapid integration into your company. Your company will also receive a copy for your complete approval.

People Placement

Now that the employee has been selected, tried and tested, we are satisfied and confident in placing the employee on the path to a potential future with your company.

People Follow Through

People Source doesn't stop with a successful placement. We periodically follow up with a meeting or phone call with the management to make sure that the employee has lived up to the potential and productivity level we all expected.
